Sheepmeat Council : Sheepmeat 2014
10 SHEEPMEAT COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA ANNUAL MUSTER 2014 National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) ADVOCACY SCA is a longstanding member of the NFF because of its leadership and national approach to advocacy. SCA provides input into NFF Committees that contribute to policy development on national and cross-commodity agricultural issues. We bring feedback and perspectives from sheepmeat producers to issues that affect Australian agriculture more broadly. For example, in the last 12 months SCA has had significant input in agricultural and veterinary chemical reform (NFF AgVet Chem Taskforce) to ensure that regulation doesn't inhibit drenches and veterinary medicines that the sheep industry needs from being available to producers. About the NFF The National Farmers' Federation (NFF) is the peak national body representing farmers and, more broadly, agriculture across Australia. This year is the 35th anniversary of the NFF. The NFF was formed in 1979 as the single national voice for Australian farmers, and is now one of Australia's foremost and respected advocacy organisations. NFF's members are the state-level farmers' organisations, national commodity councils, and other affiliated members. The NFF works with state-level farmers' organisations to represent the interests of the agricultural sector at the national level. The NFF focuses on policy issues that affect all farmers --- regardless of location or commodity --- such as farm business and profitability, access to markets, natural resource management, biosecurity, animal health and welfare, education and training and workplace relations. One of the keys to the NFF's success has been its commitment to presenting innovative and forward-looking solutions to the issues affecting agriculture, striving to meet current and emerging challenges, and advancing Australia's vital agricultural production base. 2013--14 key achievements Cutting red tape for AgVet chemicals The NFF and members were successful in calling for the Government to reform regulation of agricultural chemicals and veterinary medicines.
