34 SHEEPMEAT COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA ANNUAL MUSTER 2014 ANIMAL HEALTH & WELFARE Animal Medicines Australia (AMA) Animal Medicines Australia member companies are the innovators, manufacturers, formulators and registrants of a broad range of veterinary chemical products that prevent, control and cure disease across the companion animal and livestock sectors. Animal Medicines Australia member companies’ products increase sheepmeat yield while delivering improved environmental, health, safety and animal welfare outcomes. Animal Medicines Australia works with the Sheepmeat Council of Australia to assist in its development of policies and marketing strategies, to ensure the best possible animal health product solutions are available to the domestic sheepmeat market. Animal Medicines Australia main challenge for the next year is to assist the development of a progressive and practical regulator in the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) to ensure the most effective and safest sheepmeat health products available to the world are also provided access to the Australian market. AMA's main objectives for 2014--15 • Further reforms to the regulation of veterinary chemicals aimed at ensuring that regulatory effort is aligned to risk. • Greater harmonisation of Australia’s pre-market technical requirements with the standards developed and agreed through international bodies convened under the auspices of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). • The ongoing profile raising of the issues encountered by the animal health sector, and promoting the safe and effective animal welfare and productivity outcomes that are achieved through the participation of the animal health sector in the livestock supply chain. Duncan Bremner Chief Executive Officer, Animal Medicines Australia Animal Medicines Australia is the peak industry body representing the animal health industry in Australia. SCA works to increase access to animal health products to improve welfare and production outcomes. In 2013/14 SCA has worked with AMA, NFF, and the APVMA to gain access for new products and to progress better standards for withholding periods to benefit our industry.
