Sheepmeat Council : Sheepmeat 2014
SHEEPMEAT COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA ANNUAL MUSTER 2014 35 ANIMAL HEALTH & WELFARE Australian Veterinary Association Sheep Vets The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) is the professional organisation that represents veterinarians across Australia. The Australian Sheep Veterinarians (ASV) is a special interest group of the AVA dedicated to sharing information with and educating members about issues that affect the production and health of sheep. The ASV aims to: • Promote cooperation between all bodies involved in the sheep industry in relation to animal health and production knowledge • Further research and knowledge of sheep disease, production and the improvements of standards of sheep practice. The ASV works closely with SCA on animal health and welfare issues. This relationship allows SCA to benefit from the technical expertise of the ASV on animal health, disease and production issues. It also provides SCA an opportunity to ensure the veterinary community understands the sheepmeat industry’s position on important issues such as market access, live export, animal welfare standards and guidelines and animal identification.
